Allard Elementary School was honored with the prestigious Dan Henninger School Spirit Award, presented by WTAE-TV. This award, which includes "the Henninger" trophy and $2,500 in school supplies, recognizes Allard Elementary’s dedication to community spirit and service.
The award celebrates the long-standing partnership between WTAE-TV and the Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania in support of Project Bundle-Up, an initiative that has raised over $16 million to help those in need since its inception in 1986. With the support of well-known Pittsburgh figures like Pat Rooney and Joe DeNardo, and the steadfast behind-the-scenes work of Dan Henninger, Project Bundle-Up has made a lasting impact on the community. Henninger, a WTAE veteran of nearly 45 years, was instrumental in organizing telethons, coordinating shopping trips, and strengthening the partnership with the Salvation Army.
To honor Henninger’s legacy, the Dan Henninger School Spirit Award was created in 2023 to recognize schools that embody Project Bundle-Up’s mission. This year, WTAE Chief Meteorologist Mike Harvey presented the award to Dr. Kazmierczak, Allard principal; Mr. Tkatch, guidance counselor; Mrs. Jacob, fourth grade teacher and student council sponsor; and fourth grade students Bianca Melago and Charlotte Barnes.
Allard Elementary will be featured on WTAE’s Project Bundle-Up Auction.
Congratulations to Allard Elementary students and staff for this well-deserved honor!
